Chaturvedi’s monumental innings of unbeaten 404 was a great reversal of fortune. Having been initially dropped from the Under-19 squad for this season, he grabbed it with both hands to notch a performance that ensured his team’s victory and brought in talks of getting shortlisted into senior Karnataka side in the Ranji Trophy.
Chaturvedi’s record-breaking innings saw him beating Yuvraj Singh’s record of 24 years and his highest score that stood as a tournament final individual high of 358 runs.

He is standing at number second position on the highest individual score list in Cooch Behar Trophy and his only competitors here are Vijay Zol’s 451 not out for Maharashtra played during 2011-2012 session.
With Chaturvedi batting first and firing 638 balls, the innings included 46 fours. In response to Mumbai’s 380 all out, Karnataka scored a gargantuan total of 890 for eight after over playing just under day two; and the win was achieved on account of their first-innings lead.

Highlighting Chaturvedi’s journey, former Karnataka all-rounder and chief selector K Jeshwant, who now coaches him at the SIX Academy in Bengaluru applauded his achievement. “He was unlucky to miss the Under-16s, it took a lot of convincing for selectors to give him an opportunity there,” said Jeshwant. “The same situation took place in the Under-19s as well, but fortunately for him, he got chances and did it when needed.”

Chaturvedi started a remarkable journey at the SIX Academy in 2017 when he was only 11years old. Despite suffering these disappointments, such as failing to make the Under-16 squad, he showed responsibility and commitment mainly in 2020- 2021season.

It is noteworthy that Chaturvedi has a background of highly academic family. His father is a software engineer in Bangalore, while his mother works as a scientist under the DRDO. Chaturvedi, in addition to cricket has given other importance of focusing on academics thus having a balance between the sports and education.

Jeshwant pointed out the importance of this balanced approach as he said, “Prakhar is not that different. Those who leave education at a young age and put all their eggs (cricket) in one basket, if they get one or two poor scores or have 1 bad tournament then they are like fish out of water.”

Chaturvedi’s story is a testament to what many young cricketers do nowadays- bounce back from defeat. In the midst of all these, he never lost focus and stayed resilient to fight his way onto the pages of record books with an incredible run. The coach also stressed that the success of Chaturvedi is only a small part of this iceberg, indicating an emerging group of talented youths.

There’s an entire pool of promising youngsters who are really talented namely Dhruv Prabakhar, Aditya Samarth, Samit Dravid and Yuvraj Arora to name a few. If I was positioned in the top echelons for making choices would like him to be immediately part of senior Karnataka team.

Chaturvedi’s stellar show is likely to attract the gaze of senior state selectors and his maiden appearance in the Ranji Trophy may well open doors for a bright future at the top level.
